John Wood, on behalf of Room to Read, was awarded the 2015 Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award by the Nepalese Ministry of Education. The recognition, granted annually by the Dilli Raman Regmi Foundation Board, is given to those who have contributed to the cause of peace and international awareness, as well as to the betterment of Nepal and its people. This is the first time in the award’s history since its inception in 2006 that it has been presented to an individual outside of the political field. Past recipients include Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Jimmy Carter, Tony Hagen, Ban Ki-Moon and Aung San Suu Kyi. The award was accepted by Dinesh Shrestha, Room to Read’s co-founder and director of field operations.
